The Effect of Computerized Audio-Visual Education on Reduction of the Anxiety in Patients of Gastric Polypectomy

Abstract
Propose: The purpose of this study is to verify that computerized audio-visual education can reduce the anxiety in patients subject.

Method: The subject of this study was selected among patients who were subject to gastric polypectomy at an Endoscopy Unit of Gastroenterology Center at an University Hospital, and divided into two groups: a group of 110 experimental group who were provided with information and another group of 110 control group who were not provided with any information at all. The level of anxiety was measured using a Korean-translated tool of Spielberger¡¯s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI, 1976). The collected data were analysed using SPSS Windows 11.0 programme for x2-test

Result: 1) The level of state anxiety in experimental group (m=32.80) that were provided with audio-visual informationleducation was significantly lower than that of the control group (m=42.82), so the hypothesis was supported (t=-7.31, p<.001). 2) When the level of state anxiety according to the general characteristics of the subject was investigated, it turned out that the female patients showed higher level of anxiety than the male patients (t=-2.14 p=0.013).

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it was verified that the computerized audio-visual education is an effective method to reduce in anxiety in the patients subject to gastric polypectomy.
